Nayib Bukele Career 

He started his career in politics in March of 2012 when he was elected as the mayor of Nuveo Cuscatlan. Later in 2015, he won the mayor position of San Salvador, representing an amalgamation of FMLN and PSP. During his tenure, he gave scholarships to youths with GPAs of more than 3.5. Nayib was a member of the FMLN’s central committee until he was suspected of betraying the party.

He confronted the party’s corruption and was expelled as a result of his actions. Nayib’s religious belief was surfaced in the 2019 presidential election, and the image of him praying in Mexico City went viral. He later stated that he is a believer in the god of every religion and has no religious affinity towards a particular religion. In the 2019 presidential election, he gave his candidacy as an independent from the newly formed party “Nuevas Ideas” or New Ideas and with the help of center-right party GANA.

Eventually, he won the presidential elections with 53% of the votes and created history by winning president apart from the two major leading political parties.
